How can I help?
You can donate here, or mail a check made out to Bike & Build and sent to our office (write “Capital Ride Scholarship” in the memo).
What motivated the creation of the scholarship?
There are many young adults who would significantly benefit from Bike & Build but likely do not have the network with which to do this fundraising or the means to take significant time off from a job or school. We all know the life-changing benefits that Bike & Build can have on our young adults; we want to broaden access to this adventure.
Isn’t one of the most important facets of Bike & Build the personal growth that comes from riders fundraising for their own trip and advocating for the cause?
Indeed, it is. That is why our recipient will complete “Bike & Build Equity.” This will include extended sweat equity on a build site, group training sessions around Philadelphia, organizing their own fundraising event, and working with staff to advocate for the cause pre-trip.
Is this a one-year project?
Nope. With demonstrated success of the program and increased partnerships, we hope to engage multiple riders on The Capital Ride next year. Eventually we hope the scholarship will grow to support riders on cross-country trips.
How is Bike & Build funding the scholarship?
We will not be using funds raised by other riders that they have designated to benefit the affordable housing cause and their B&B trip. All money is being raised through separate donors.
Who is sponsoring the program?
Bike & Build has partnered with several organizations in the Philadelphia area to provide this opportunity to a young adult.
We have received donations from multiple individuals as well. We are grateful for their contributions!
